I took the 70-200 f2.8 down to the Strathmore Rodeo finals today to try to capture some of the action. The neat thing about smaller rodeos outside town is that you can get really close up without having to jump through hoops for a press pass. At one point I was leaning against the gate trying to stabilize my lens when a horse that riders had failed to corral came careening into it as I just got out of the way. As the whole thing flexed and dirt flew everywhere you really got a sense for the amount of power these animals have. Regardless of your views on the ethics of rodeo, you have to acknowledge one thing- the guys that get on these animals are absolutely crazy!
