Calgary Zoo's New Additions

I know, I know- always with the tigers... but its allowed this time because there are three new tiger cubs at the Calgary zoo. I put these images in black and white instead of colour because I really wanted to emphasize the texture of the markings and the fur on these little guys.

Peacock

A few years ago when I first bought a DSLR I went to the zoo and got a shot of a peacock feather close up. I loved the photo so much but after my computer crashed and I lost the image I realized I also had never printed it. This weekend I went to the zoo for 5 minutes to try to replicate the shot. I ended up spending a little more time with this guy...

Calgary Zoo Tigers

Whenever I make a trip to the Calgary Zoo I end up spending the whole visit at the tiger enclosure. I intend to visit the other animals but somehow it never ends up that way... Thanks to Blair and Marni for getting me the annual zoo pass!

Macro Photography

This weekend I thought I'd take a shot at macro photography because it is something I had never really had the gear to do before. I rented a dedicated macro lens and headed to the zoo to experiment. It was pouring outside so I was confined to the greenhouse that is home to an abundance of butterflies.

Tiger

The Calgary Zoo is home to many Siberian and Bengal tigers. When I was new to Calgary and trying to get a better look at a tiger up close, I wandered around the back of the enclosures and came face to face with a 700 lb male in his cage waiting for feeding time. There is nothing that makes you feel quite so insignificant as looking one of these giant cats in the eyes from close proximity.
